Die Wanderungen aus eigenem Antrieb1 können in unterschiedlicher Stärke nach verschiedenen Richtungen gehen. Der „Auswanderung” (802-4) entspricht oft ein — meist schwächerer — Gegenstrom: die Rückwanderung2, bestehend aus Personen, die früher ausgewandert sind und jetzt in die Heimat zurückkehren. Wenn eine solche Rückkehr staatlich gelenkt wird, nennt man sie Rückführung3 (Repatriierung3).
- 1. Die Untersuchung der Wanderungsströme kann einen Hauptstrom der Auswanderung erkennen lassen. Die Formen der freiwilligen Wanderung sind u. a. Siedlung (landwirtschaftliche, industrielle), freiwillige Umsiedlung, freiwillige Repatriierung und gelenkte Wanderung.
- 2. Rückwanderung, S. f. — Rückwanderer, S. m. — rückwandern, V. i.
- 3. Repatriierung, S. f. — repatriieren, V. t. — Repatriierter, P. P. von repatriieren, als S. m. gebraucht. Irreführend und verharmlosend ist der Begriff Repatriierung (Umsiedlung, 812-6) für Vertreibung (Austreibung, 812-2).
